Ministry with Under 5s

“Love God, your God with your whole heart: love him with all that’s in you, love with with all you’ve got! Write these commandments that I’ve give you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night.”  Deuteronomy 6:5-7

As I sat in church one Sunday morning I observed a child with his mother as part of the congregation. As the service (which was not hugely child friendly) began, I saw how the boy engaged with images projected onto the screen, and listened to the prayers and said ‘Amen’. Most memorably, I watched as the boy made music with his voice and clapped this hands during the worship songs. Seeing him doing this, you could not deny that this child, at that time, was immersed in praising God…and he was 2 years old!

Despite working with under 5s since 2004, and knowing the importance of sharing the love of Christ with young children, every time I witness something like this it blows me away. It’s such an honour to see the youngest members of our church families connecting with God.

If you’d like some guidance on helping your under 5s learn about Jesus, so that the Gospel message is written on their hearts, you’ve come to the right place. Here you will find resources that will assist you with your ministry, and details of events and training that might be of interest.

If nothing here quite ‘scratches your itch’ then please contact me to discuss what else I can offer to support you in your under 5s ministry.

Blessings

Important Question

Have you heard of ‘Soft Play church’? Some churches in the UK have used part of their church building to house soft play equipment so they can minister to their local community in a different way, and in a setting where they feel comfortable.

We think this is a really exciting concept and back in September we held our ‘Big Night Out for Little People’ at Cheeky Monkey’s Soft Play Centre in Chorley. It was a really great event, and an amazingly different opportunity for young children to explore and experience the word of God. If you have a successful toddler group, creche, or perhaps a group of baptism families, and would like to partner with us so we can discuss the possibilities then please email sarah.earnshaw@blackburn.anglican.org
