Primary RE Syllabus Launch Conferences 2017

For Blackburn and Liverpool dioceses.

Dates and venues – please choose whichever is most convenient:
All will run from 9.30am – 3.30pm and include lunch.

Cost: £250 for up to three delegates from any one school. This could include Headteacher, RE Coordinator, vicar, governor etc…

The newly revised primary RE syllabus accompanied by the brand new resource Understanding Christianity will be presented and fully explained at these conferences by Lisa Horobin.  At the conference each school will receive a new syllabus and a copy of the Understanding Christianity resource along with a new Picturing Christianity Photograph Pack from RE Today Services. Throughout the day delegates will receive training on how to use the new syllabus and Understanding Christianity in both theory and practice. The new syllabus Introduces a new pedagogy of exploring God’s big Bible story and the big concepts in Christianity. This is an exciting time for RE in our primary schools as the new syllabus promises to move us forward and be even better at what we are already very good at!

As in the past all schools will receive a new syllabus as part of their SLA, however these will not be distributed to those who do not attend the launch conferences until December. Schools will only receive an Understanding Christianity resource if they attend the conference as this resource must be accompanied by training.

Primary Head Teachers Meetings 2016/2017

For Head Teachers of Primary Schools and Academies in Blackburn Diocese.

These meetings will be repeated at three venues across the diocese. At each meeting part of the time will be spent in considering one of the SIAMS Core Questions. The programme for each term will be posted below.
Each meeting will begin at 9.00am and end by 11.30am

These meetings are free to schools who pay into the diocesan family of schools (SLA). For non-members the cost is £45 per person.

Induction Course for new Head Teachers and New Deputy Headteachers

An introduction to leadership in a Church of England/Methodist Primary school within Blackburn Diocese.
This course is free to schools who pay into the diocesan family of schools (SLA). For non-members the cost is £85 per person per session.

The programme consisting of a day conference and 4 morning sessions will provide professional support for newly appointed head teachers and deputy headteachers within a church school. The programme will be led by Lisa Horobin and members of the Diocesan Associate Advisers Team.

Session 1: Monday 10th October 2016 – Day Conference – Vision and Values, Leadership in a Church School, Collective Worship and Spiritual Development

Session 2: Thursday 1st December 2016 – Admissions, Appeals and Governance

Session 3: Tuesday 17th January 2017 – School Buildings that build the Kingdom

Session 4: Tuesday 21st February 2017 – Preparing for your SIAMS Inspection

Session 5: Thursday 27th April 2017 – Church, School and Community

The three sessions aim to deepen participants’ understanding of the distinctive nature of a church school in the areas of values, collective worship, religious education and children’s spiritual development. It is expected that the participants will attend all three sessions, however booking for individual sessions can be made. The programme will be led by Lisa Horobin.

This course is free to schools who pay into the diocesan family of schools (SLA). For non-members the cost is £45 per person per session

Primary Pupils’ Collective Worship Conference – 9th June 2017

The cost for this conference is £100 per school for 2 (year 5 or Year 6) pupils and one adult per school

Primary RE Cluster Meetings

Primary RE Cluster meetings are for RE Coordinators and those with responsibility for RE. These meetings are informal gatherings where resources, updates, training and good ideas are shared. These meetings will be led by outstanding experienced RE co-ordinators. Lisa Horobin will also attend one cluster meeting at each venue during the academic year as noted below. These meetings are free to schools who pay into the Blackburn Diocesan Family of Schools (SLA). £25 per person for all others.

All meetings start at 4.00pm and finish by 5.30pm
