Bishop of Lancasters Scriptural Challenge
For Primary Schools and Churches
Children Aged 4-11 years
Dear teachers and church leaders,
The Bishop of Lancaster has instigated this Scriptural Challenge for the Year of the Bible 2011, to encourage children to look at the Bible in more detail.
To receive the award, each child must complete twelve tasks (a new one will be set each month) and be able to present them for assessment in a folder or scrapbook at the end of the year.
Those who have achieved the award will be presented with a gift from the Bishop of Lancaster at a special service in 2012.
If you have a group of children who may like to participate in the Scriptural Challenge, read on for more details!
- Firstly please complete and return the registration form. This will allow us to keep track of who is participating in the challenge so that we can keep in touch with you.
- Secondly, you will need to provide (or ask the children to source) a folder or scrapbook to hold evidence that they have completed all of the tasks. This will also be a nice reminder of everything that they have achieved at the end of the challenge!
- Each month, details of the challenge for the month will be available on the website. Download the details and tell the children in your group what their challenge is. Allow the children time to complete the task or ask them to work on it at home.
- Store the children's work in their scrapbook or file so it can be presented for assessment at the end of the year.
- Don't worry if you want to join in the fun but have missed some months. The previous months tasks will still be available to download so you can catch up on the tasks that you have missed - the children just need to be able to show that they have completed all twelve challenges at the end of the year.
Please note, instructions for each challenge have been written for children participating to work on individually. You may like to work on some aspects of the tasks as a group, particularly if you are working with a younger group of children. Also, if you have younger children and the task set involves writing, it is fine for an adult to help them record their thoughts.
