"We are called to minister to small children quite simply because that's what Jesus did. This work has to be right at the heart of the ministry of the local Church, just as it was at the heart of the ministry of Jesus."
The Rt Revd Philip North, Bishop of Burnley
"It's never too early to start sharing our faith, ABC, share their faith in an interactive, informative way teaching us all that God is praised at every age."
Canon Andrew Holliday, Chair of the Diocesan Children's Committee
"Under 5's ministry gives the opportunity to lay God's foundations of truth and of love into the lives of his tiniest children, helping them to recognise His voice and guiding hand."
Joyce Herdson, Under 5's Children's Worker
"The foundations of all they know and experience are being laid in their earliest years. If we ignore this within our ministry we have failed to understand that Christian formation does not begin when a child reaches school age."
Mary Hawes, National Children and Youth Adviser
"As young children seek to make sense of the world around them, it is crucial that they gain a complete understanding of a complete world - a world where a living God is the centre and loves them dearly."
Stephen Whittaker, Director of Education

"Love God, your God with your whole heart: love him with all that's in you, love him with all you've got! Write these commandments that I've given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night."
Deuteronomy 6:5-7

A word from Sarah

As I sat in church one Sunday morning I observed a child with his mother as part of the congregation.

As the service (which was not hugely child friendly) began, I saw how the boy engaged with images projected onto the screen, and listened to the prayers and said 'Amen'. Most memorably, I watched as the boy made music with his voice and clapped his hands during the worship songs. Seeing him doing this, you could not deny that this child, at that time, was immersed in praising God...and he was 2 years old!

Despite working with under 5s since 2004, and knowing the importance of sharing the love of Christ with young children, every time I witness something like this it blows me away. It's such an honour to see the youngest members of our church families connecting with God.

If you'd like some guidance on helping your under 5s learn about Jesus, so that the Gospel message is written on their hearts, you've come to the right place. Here you will find resources that will assist you with your ministry, and details of events and training that might be of interest.
