Reflections on the Advent Quiet Day 2018 “Love came down at Christmas”

“I found the day an excellent opportunity to take time out of the busyness of school life to reflect on the meaning of Christmas. The theme ‘love came down at Christmas’ was well-chosen and allowed me to reflect on my work and personal life and see where changes could be made…. I also like the choice of setting, it is good to get out of Blackburn and go somewhere where the environment is particularly conducive to quiet reflection. Fr Lawrence’s message during the Eucharist was very much in line with the theme for the day and it was good to talk to him over lunch. t was clear that the other attendees found the day very helpful too. i very much hope that this event is provided again next year.”

“Many thanks for a thought provoking day”

“A fantastic day and would highly recommend to all headteachers. a thought provoking, reflective day in a beautiful peaceful setting. Fred has us all captivated the whole day. Please book me into the next one, and could they be termly?”

“I found the quiet day to be a wonderful experience. Fred is such an inspirational speaker and I really valued being able to focus on my own religious and spiritual development.”

Fred’s theme was perfect for this time of year and I really appreciated being able to relax and have the time to really absorb what he was saying. I found the day to be not only thought provoking, but actually quite moving.”

“Just wanted to say what a wonderful time I had on the quiet day. First of all the setting of the course was amazing yet tranquil. Fred gave depth and a new insight into the meaning of love in 1 Corinthians 13:1-3.  I am still reflecting upon how I show my love to others and how I view others. The food and Facilities were excellent.”

“The communion service was a lovely part of the day that I think all of us enjoyed sharing very much. All staff at the Abbey were very welcoming and lunch was delightful!”

“I haven’t attended one of these days before but I would definitely do so again, and would recommend it to colleagues.”

Day in the Life

Church schools have a reputation for securing transformational outcomes for children and young people by combining academic rigour with a rounded approach to personal development, rooted in the worship and other shared practices that characterise the life of their community. None do this better than the Church Schools in the Diocese of Blackburn. But what are they really like, behind the classroom doors? This short video gives a glimpse of a day in the life of one of our schools through the eyes of the most important people, our children.
