A Christian Mental Health Framework

The mental changes of life – A Christian Frame of Life

Over on our Instagram account, we have started a new series of ‘Hello…month’ which will be posted each 1st of the month.  Here are a few thoughts about the framework in which we think about things.

As a basis I want to think with you about three short thoughts:

  1. I used the word ‘mental’ intentionally in the title as it is used negatively but it is super important to make clear from the beginning Mental health is not just talking about problems, mental health should be compared to physical health. We all have it. Sometimes it is good, sometimes it is bad. We should talk about it.
  1. Life seems hard and it feels like we are never really in control. This leads to stress and can lead to other problems.  You are right, life is very hard (for everyone). You can’t escape the stress, constant changes and problems. The secret in life is that you are never in control. You can try to shut yourself away but that just leads to more problems. In the end you need to engage. But how?
  1. How we see the world is super important in being able to deal. Below, on the left, you see the way the non-follower of Christ talks about people. Often, they do not even include the middle connection arrows but just try to put you in a box (e.g. physical problem, depressed, downer).

On the right you see how a Christ follower should see themselves and their problems, no matter if they are emotional, physical, mind things or your behaviour.  All of you is connected and all of you is under the umbrella of ‘spiritual’. God stands over all of you.
