How to Share Your Faith with Young People

This is a really exciting topic to think about.  If you have the opportunity to share your faith with young people, or you are joining a team or going on mission, that’s awesome!!  Here’s a few points to consider;

PRAY

Pray for opportunities.  God can help to orchestrate opportunities and situations in which He will use you to be the bringer of good news.  Dare to pray and watch what happens.  

SHARE GOOD NEWS

Romans 1:16 says that the gospel is the power of God for salvation.  When we’re sharing faith, we want to see others put their faith in Christ.  That is a miracle that requires power and that power comes only from God, through the gospel.  Be bold and explain the cross, our need for it and to ask for forgiveness.  The exciting things is, God has called us to go and share that gospel.

SHARE TESTIMONIES AND STORIES

Share testimonies – they are powerful.  Your story of how you were saved by God will be a great way to connect.  They will also be able to ask you questions.  Sharing stories of others who have been saved is also great.  This will help them understand.  Bible stories and parables will really help you explain our need and God’s goodness.  The lost son, sheep and coin in Luke 15 are some good examples.

BE CREATIVE

Use your situation – you might be on a sports pitch, in McDonalds or in a school assembly.  Use whatever resources you might have to help illustrate the gospel and help people remember it.  Think back to the most boring class you had in school, what was it about?  Can you remember it?…nope.  You’ve forgotten it, and probably not because you were awake and enthralled at the content.

THINK TEAM

It is likely you’ll be serving in the context of your church / youth ministry and that is a good idea.  This way you’ll have the support and encouragement from your church.

BE COMPASSIONATE

There is nothing easy talking or hearing about hell.  It’s horrible.  So, let’s remember our need for Jesus, that will keep us humble and help us to share good news of grace with a heart of compassion.  Don’t be pushy, or mean or judgmental – people will not listen.

HAVE FAITH

God is with you and be confident that He will help you as you go.  Well done on stepping out, go for it!  Many people face the reality of a lost eternity, God will use you to bear much fruit.  

Colossians 4, is a great encouragement.  

2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. 5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
